Ferrari's guitarist was sold at auction

The rare 2003 Ferrari 575 Maranello, which boasts 10,000 miles on the clock, snapped by a buyer private in a sale at Silverstone on Saturday.

Auction Manager Guy Loveridge said the vehicle exceeded its price.

The yellow Maranello acquired new Mr Clapton, who signed his book's service and was then sold to Mr Evans.

Mr Loveridge said the Ferrari - which was described by Silverstone auctions as a desirable car in itself--was in a lovely position.

"Origin of famous name is always a help," he said.

"It is a great car and we are not surprised that gets a lot of money."

The car was expected to go to 58,000 £-£ 66,000 in the classic sales at Silverstone, Northamptonshire - the home of the British Grand Prix.
