Objective of 'difficult' fuel poverty

The admission came from Secretary of infrastructure Alex Neil after three of the six major energy suppliers confirmed increases in prices of electricity and gas.

The South, ScottishPower, the Scottish and British Gas Energy have announced large increases in recent weeks.

The comments of Mr. Neil came in response to a parliamentary question of labour.

Scottish Labour, which has asked the British Government to reverse its decision to cut the budget of fuel poverty, has also urged knocking the Competition Commission this week to investigate the rising prices.

The Government said that recent price increases could be as a result an additional 169,000 households facing shortages of fuel, bringing the total to 939,000.

According to labour, the Scottish Government will spend a total of 48 million pounds sterling in addressing the shortage of fuel in 2011-12, under £ 70. 9 m in 2010-11.

The spokesman continued: "in May of this year, the Prime Minister announced the introduction of a Scottish background of homes warm from 50 million pounds sterling supported from the Fund's future (SFF) to offer energy efficiency, heating and other measures aimed at the poor fuel."

"In a world where the global energy markets are volatile, we are also maximize the use of natural resources of Scotland's renewable energy, such as wind, wave and hydro to create a mix of secure energy and diverse in the future."

He added: "In the future, we see much greater price spikes and volatility if our energy supply dependent on fossil fuels imported, rather than Scottish carbon sources."
